Kenyan police officer dies in Haiti
A Kenyan police officer deployed to Haiti shot and killed during an operation against criminal gangs in Seguin, Pont-Sonde, Port-au-Prince.
This marks the first casualty for the Kenyan contingent since their deployment on June 25, 2024, as part of the Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission.
The officer was part of a team conducting operations in Artibonite, an area controlled by the Gran Grif gang.
After responding to distress calls from residents, the Kenyan officers engaged the criminals in a firefight.
The officer sustained critical gunshot wounds and was airlifted to Level Two Aspen Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Following the attack, his colleagues pursued the gang members and reportedly killed dozens.
The El Salvador Causality Evacuation (CASEVAC) team responded swiftly, but doctors were unable to save him.
